I do npt have anything useful to add to the disclose-don't-disclose battle
except to point out the obvious--there is no easy answer.

My philosophy and politics (and some 60 years of living) argue that all
else being equal, "free and open", "lots of sunshine" and so forth is
way better that dark corners and secrets. If you could trust everybody
it wouldn't make any difference--and if you can't trust somebody, is letting
them work where you can't see them a good idea? I will leave that as an
excercise for the reader.

But more to the point--and this may be news, it has been increasingly
apparent that the AV software and its maintenance maybe doing as much
damage as the villians would, left alone.

Which has brought to mind a crude sign next to a large valve-handle sticking
out of the wall of the San Diego RAO a long time ago. The wall in question
was one of the walls inclosing the tape library--the valve in question
control the flow of water to the sprinklers in the tape library.

The sign said, as best I can recall: "In case of fire, open this valve.
When the water damage exceeds the fire damage, close this valve."
