But do the thieves know that? It would have to become common knowledge that
if you cut a finger off, it won't "work" anymore but the (frustrated)
thieves might try it regardless :(

The newer better-fingerprint readers also make sure that the finger is
alive and warm - still attached to its original host. Check the specs
