Don't go discounting the positive aspects of the sacrifice of small woodland
game animals in maintaining the sanctity, health, and performance of
operational systems. I can't count the number of customer issues that have
been solved simply by the laying of hands on keyboards. Poke around a bit,
push a few buttons, and everything just starts working again. I'm usually
honest with the customer as to the nature of the fix and let them know that all
I did was sacrifice a few squirrels in the back alley and maybe they should be
digging deeper into their application to find the root cause of the instability
(or propose that I do so).
