We do it every day. Its an existential exercise... can you fight MS entropy?
It can be done on a limited basis, but you have to roll
your own software or run Windows stuff in emulation. It's easier to
support Photoshop than to teach an average user Gnome desktop and GIMP.
In this respect its easier to support the Mac than Linux/What have you.
Just a fact of life, folks...
