Thanks to all the folks who provided input.
Many people asked if I would summarize the responses.
In no particular order, and stripping "discussion", the list
of those recommended includes:
Naval Postgraduate School
UC at Davis
UC Berkeley
Oregon Graduate Institute
U Michigan
Carnegie Melon
Purdue
Johns Hopkins University
Fred Cohen mention that "All of the Universities offering Ph.D. degrees and
listed as centers of Excellence have reasonably good programs and at least
some good faculty."
What tells volumes about the integrity of the folks on this list is that
several people who responded recommended their peers, but refrained from
mentioning their own programs.
It's a privilege to exchange electrons with you.
