    In addition to the recommendations already given:

    If your FTP server is accessed only anonymously, you might want to take
    a look at publicfile, available at http://cr.yp.to/publicfile.html. I
    found it to be a great program for just serving files. (For
    collaboration and uploads I suggest sftp).
