    Well, no. Fortran was written for the 704. Somewhat later, the 650 got
    Fortransit, which was a multi-step monstrosity whose first pass translated
    to IT (Internal Translator), then from IT to SOAP, and then to 650 machine.
    At each step the translator had to be loaded from cards, then the input,
    with output punched on cards to be read back in after loading the next
    phase's program. Oh, and at one point in the process the control board
    of the card reader had to be changed.

    Did we mention that the 650 was a decimal machine, with the actual
    representation being bi-quinary? That's a bit for 0/5 and four more
    bits for 1-4.

    But the drum spun at 12000 rpm - pretty good for the 1950's.
