My Tokyo customer has hub data centers in Japan, US and UK with 100 Mbps to
the Internet and fractional T1 between data centers. Some data centers are
very old, and have firewalls and network equipment from many different
vendors. About 50% of the WAN traffic is voice over IP. The rest is mostly
email and large CAD file transfers. Today he uses MRTG freebee and HP
Network Node Manager to monitor the WAN at the Tokyo end. He plans to
increase the private WAN to full T1 and use the Internet connection (+VPN)
as his backup if his private WAN should go down.
What are the risks of using VPN over the Internet as the backup?
Please can someone point me to a white paper from a failry independant
organization (wishful thinking) comparing firewalls.
